Teaching Philosophy
No matter what age you are or ability level you are at, it is NEVER too late to begin flute lessons!
My primary aim in teaching is to instill a lifelong appreciation of music in my students. I have taught flute lessons spanning 10 years now, and I enjoy teaching students of all different ages and ability levels. My teaching is based on strong fundamentals of technique, as well as a clear understanding of proper musical communication through beautiful tone and colorful interpretations. I tailor my instruction for each student’s specific needs, and I help all students create and work towards their goals. Music can teach many things, including enhanced listening skills, diligence, proper communication, presentation, and collaboration. Whether your goal is to improve playing in your school band, make it into your local Youth Symphony, or be accepted into your dream conservatory to study music, I am here to help you along the way!
Through my teaching, I have been fortunate to teach/coach:
individual private lessons to students of all levels — beginner to advanced
weekly lessons to Yale University undergraduate flute students
pro bono flute lessons/mentor students
masterclasses, chamber music sessions, and individual lessons as Faculty at the 2022 Ithaca College Summer Music Academy
group and individual lessons during the 2015 Morse Summer Music Festival
private lessons through the Music in Schools Initiative
chamber music for Yale University’s Undergraduate Chamber Music course
In addition to acquiring technique and understanding music and its forms, I encourage my students to express music in an authentic way. My mission is to influence, impact, and captivate the world through music, and I hope to nurture similar missions in my students.
